On our last trip to Mayo her amyloid hematologist was on
vacation so we did not get a chance to see him, this is not unusual since
coordinating between so many different doctors is a challenge. He does order all the tests and then when he
gets back he calls. Well it seems that
one of her amyloid numbers has been trending up, they tend to bounce around a bit and that is normal so they look for trends.
This is not good news. The
current options that he is thinking about is to do nothing until our next trip
up in November or he is considering some form of chemo. The trend is very slow but over the last few
visits the numbers on the free light chain test have been slowly rising. Good news is that the other test are coming
back without much change (24 hour urine, M-Spike, etc. If you know what the previous names are you
know the rest of the tests also). He
wants to consult with two other docs and get their opinion to see what to do at
this point so we will have to wait and see what comes of this.
The good news is with her new diet she is gaining
weight! Yippee!! She is also getting stronger and is feeling
much better. This is really good news
because given the shape she was in a few months ago I am not sure how well she
could have tolerated any chemo.
Time will tell what all this means but with her getting
stronger and gaining weight and her amyloid numbers on the rise she will
probably be back on some type of chemo by the end of the year. We will have to wait and see.
I will keep you posted when we have any definitive answers,
thanks!
