Well this week Margaret had two tumors removed from her bladder. I would like to say that it was an uneventful procedure, yes I would LIKE to be able to say that. Reality is the procedure was pretty uneventful but after we got home her bladder started to spasm which caused some pretty severe cramps. Back to the doctor today and she got a catheter put in to help her bladder relax and calm down. She gets to keep it in (the catheter) until late next week.
The doctor did bring me ‘before’ pictures of the two tumors in her bladder which I must say is pretty cool, maybe they will be in our Christmas news letter this year. Calm down and stop requesting to get off our newletter list, I am just kidding, Margaret wouldn't let me put them in, that woman has no sense of humor. The doctor still had no answer on what the tumors are until pathology is done which should be next week some time. I tried to go fishing for some info from him but he wasn’t biting, a lot like when I really go fishing. Needless to say we are hoping we avoid the ‘C(ancer)’ word this time. They did have to dig pretty deep to get one of the tumors out and they think this is the reason for her cramping. She also got some better pain meds which should also help things relax. Hopefully her bladder will calm down and stay that way and then we will get good news (no ‘C’ word) next week for her follow up checkup. Since I am over 50 I asked for a catheter so I can sleep through the night without a trip(s) to the bathroom, but they said ‘Ah, no’.
We are hoping for a calm time next week and a good report from pathology and the removal of a catheter.

April 21, 2012 – A Relatively New Development
At our last Mayo visit Margaret mentioned that it felt ‘strange’ when she went tinkle (#1), it didn’t hurt, just felt strange. Mayo suggested that she visit a urologist when we got home. Well to make a long story short we had the visit with the urologist and he decided among other things to take a look. What they found was two tumors in her bladder. In the next week or two (intentionally vague) we are going to have them scrap them out or at the least take a biopsy to see what they are. The cytology or her urine sample showed no cancer cells so we are taking that as good news.
On a side note, our daughter is much better with her mono, she just gets a little tired, otherwise she is back to normal.

April 10, 2012 – One Year Ago Today
I know what I was doing 1 year ago, I was pooping my pants. It was 1 year ago today that we got 'the call'. Actually as I write this we would have already have gotten the call. Right now we would have been telling the kids and getting our stuff ready to go.
It has been an eventful year to say the least. It was a year that I almost spent more time in Rochester than I did at work. My work was VERY good about all the time I got off, I can not tell you how much easier it was not to have to worry about work while in Rochester, especially since I was there many times. They really were very good to me. The kids were just amazing with all the time that we were out of town, they did an amazing job without us. I can also not thank everyone who was so helpful and generous to us during the past year. If I was to list all of the people who helped us Google would need more disk space to hold just the list.
In that time we got to know many people who we will not soon forget and still communicate with a few of them. There were three cardiac transplants last year on the early morning of the 11th. Two adult and one pediatric patient were transplanted 1 year ago, then 10 days later there was another adult cardiac patient. So there were 4 cardiac transplant patients in the house at one time and we all go to go through the experience together.
Someone we met in the transplant house just a about 1 week ago got the liver he was waiting for. For those who were in the house about a year ago, the person I am talking about is Steve L. who has familial amyloidosis. Margaret got a call from him today telling us the good news. We are all very excited for him!!

April 9, 2012 – Our New Update
Well never let it be said that we do not keep the medical field going. Our daughter was diagnosed with mono last week and went to the university health service for a follow up checkup and they called and ambulance to take her to the ER. Turns out she was a little dizzy from being dehydrated. (I would have inserted a remark about the dizzy but she is my daughter). Apparently ‘sit here and drink this gallon of water was way to low tech. She did get 2 bags of fluid and then started urinating. She was home this weekend and saw our doctor who thought that it is mono but is running another more accurate test to confirm the mono.
As far as Margaret is concerned, her poop test came back positive for norovirus (aka cruise ship virus)which is the source of her… well…. let’s just say digestive issues. They think she was just getting to the point of getting better and then the boat load of prednisone (steroid) came marching back for her next chemo cycle. For normal people (insert joke here) it only lasts for a couple of days but since she is immunocompromised from the antirejection meds and the chemo, well she is just messed up. At this point it seems to be getting better so maybe it is getting close to being over, everyone would appreciate that. I still want to know when she had time to go on a cruise 'cause nobody asked me if I wanted to go, kinda glad I didn't though.
