Here is the latest… They put the kibosh on the Stem Cell Transplant (for those of you who are not hipsters that means they said no). They had concerns about the PTLD coming back and the toxicity of the chemo for the SCT based on her response to the R-Chop (chemo) she had for the PTLD.
The current plan is to do chemo, Velcade to be specific. We are assuming that it would include that wonderful drug, dexamethasone, (sarcasm, what a beast that steroid is). The plan as we currently know it is she will have a shot of Velcade and dex once a week for four weeks then one week off, then repeat the cycle. Every month we will be going back for evaluation. As far as side effects are concerned Velcade is know to cause permanent neuropathy but apparently when it is in a shot form the chances of that is much reduced, that and the 'normal' chemo side effects.
At this point we don’t know how many cycles there will be, time will tell, and we should get more information at our next visit with the hematologist. We are still trying to plan on when the chemo will start which is mostly based on when we can go back to the ‘Great White North’.
That’s all I got for now.
Good grief!!!! I've been through a lot in my life, but I think my medical background traumas are not helping me understand this mess that continually surrounds you all. Continued prayers and love.
