It is with deep sorrow that I tell you that Riley passed away this morning. Margaret and Emma (our other dog) came downstairs this morning at 6:45 and Riley stayed in bed, which is normal for him. When he hadn't come down by 7:15 Margaret went up to find him dead. He had moved to the top of the bed to be up by my pillow, his favorite spot. Margaret called me at work to tell me and then I immediately came home. To say that he was a wonderful dog does not do him justice. Since he was diagnosed with lymphoma we knew that this was going to happen but we were not sure when the day would come, we thought we had more time. The good news is soon we going back to Mayo for Margaret's last chemo and we had planned to have him stay at the vets because of all the pills and the schedule they demand. At least this way he was able to go in comfortable surrounding, his favorite spot on the bed and at home and not in a cage at the vets. He was not in any pain.
He will be deeply missed.

ReplyDeleteLove and hugs, Auntie
We understand. We are glad that Riley is at peace, went peacefully at the place where he found much peace over the last few years. I guess that is all we can ask if they are going to die. Didn't know Riley, but knew and loved all of our animals and the last two also died peacefully in their favorite spots in the house. Perhaps they are all toghether.

ReplyDeleteI am heartbroken at the loss of Riley; he was a wonderful dog, and I enjoyed many happy hours playing with him. May he rest in peace, and may all of you be comforted by happy memories of him. Farewell, dear little Riley. I love you.

He's waiting for you at the Rainbow bridge, you will meet again!
ReplyDeleteThe Rainbow Bridge
inspired by a Norse legend
By the edge of a woods, at the foot of a hill,
Is a lush, green meadow where time stands still.
Where the friends of man and woman do run,
When their time on earth is over and done.
For here, between this world and the next,
Is a place where each beloved creature finds rest.
On this golden land, they wait and they play,
Till the Rainbow Bridge they cross over one day.
No more do they suffer, in pain or in sadness,
For here they are whole, their lives filled with gladness.
Their limbs are restored, their health renewed,
Their bodies have healed, with strength imbued.
They romp through the grass, without even a care,
Until one day they start, and sniff at the air.
All ears prick forward, eyes dart front and back,
Then all of a sudden, one breaks from the pack.
For just at that instant, their eyes have met;
Together again, both person and pet.
So they run to each other, these friends from long past,
The time of their parting is over at last.
The sadness they felt while they were apart,
Has turned into joy once more in each heart.
They embrace with a love that will last forever,
And then, side-by-side, they cross over… together.
